WILLIAM BLOSS
for Board of Education
  Bio
Chair, Board of Education (2005-2007)

Member, Board of Education for 8 years

Lawyer and litigator for Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder

Raised in Branford, Guilford resident for 12 years

Married with two children in Guilford school system

Member, State Property Tax Cap Commission

Vice-Chair, Guilford?s Tax Stabilization Committee that created a tax freeze for qualifying senior citizens

Accomplishments Board of Education incumbent, first elected 1999

BOE Chair since 2005

Helped bring more openness to all aspects of Guilford?s public school system and expand in-school participation by parents

Supported appropriate physical improvements to school buildings, including a much needed ventilation system for Calvin Leete, and a careful evaluation of other facilities by committed citizens with expertise in building design and maintenance

Statement "In my view, the BOE?s essential purpose is to improve classroom instruction. Recently, the board oversaw the implementation of Guilford?s first districtwide strategic plan, the adoption of new curricula, and a substantial reduction in class size at the elementary level. It also started an ambitious project using technology to improve instruction and instituted zero-based budgeting.

If reelected, I will expand on this innovation and provide needed resources for improved instruction, including professional development for teachers and reduced class size. I want every person involved with our schools to understand that we get only one chance to educate a child, so it must be done right the first time."
