Since my 2001-2003 term as First Selectman through to the present,
Guilford has acquired, or is negotiating for, 900 acres of

Dudley Preserve--140 acres purchased for open space on the North
Branford-Guilford line
Woodruff Farm--9 acres adjacent to Whitfield House Museum acquired for
use as a park and other municipal activities
Broomstick Ledges--purchase of 140 acres of open space is in process to
create a green belt linking Bluff Head to east side of Route 77
East River Preserve (aka Goss property)--purchase of 600 acres of open
space is under negotiation to complete a green belt running from North
Guilford to shoreline salt marshes along the East River
Statement
"In the past two years I?ve overseen one of the most productive
bipartisan boards of selectmen in Guilford's history. Since the town is
developing at an unprecedented rate, our biggest challenge has been to
guide local growth to get a balanced mix of residential development,
commercial/industrial development, and undeveloped land.
Toward this end, I successfully worked, out of public view, to match
Guilford landowners with developers whose projects will balance our tax
base and meet the needs of our expanding population. I worked with
Guilford families whose land holdings have changed in use and value to
find options benefitting both them and the town. And, where
appropriate, this administration has aggressively pursued the
acquisition of open space to help mitigate the tax burden.
I have the experience and the vision to help Guilford grow wisely and
avoid costly mistakes. I am the right person in the right place at the
right time to balance continued development and the preservation of the
town?s quality of life. I ask for your support and your vote so that
the Democratic team can bring projects under way to fruition. What we
do--via smart growth, balanced economic development, and open space
acquisition--will be a legacy to our citizens for today and the
future."
