- First Selectman Balestracci described the BOS work with Department Heads to reduce expenditures in the present budget year. The Board of Selectmen will hold a joint workshop with the Board of Finance and the Board of Education to discuss guidelines for preparing the budget for fiscal year 2009/2010.
- State Senator Ed Meyer reminded us that state revenue shortfalls may affect Guilford’s revenues in the coming year.
- Gary MacElhiney, Chairman of the Land Acquisition Commission presented information about the proposed town purchase of the Goss property, aka East River Preserve - 600+ acres of land which includes a 40 acre meadow, extensive tidal wetlands and the remains of several historic sites. With easy public access for hiking and cross-country skiing on Bear House Hill Road, and its key location in the watershed of the East River, its recreational and environmental value cannot be overstated. A Town meeting to present the proposed purchase is scheduled for around January 14 and if approved, a Referendum will be held on January 27. All interested parties were asked to contact others and urge them to make note of these dates and to attend these meetings.
